Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Monday, November 17, 2014 Damnoen Saduak District, Ratchaburi, Thailand

Tracing its roots back to ancient times, trading goods along canals and rivers was a common sight all over the world. Farmers and traders alike paddle their goods in wooden boats to sell their produce. Today, some parts of the world still practice such tradition and one of the most popular ones is just a 2-drive away from Bangkok, the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.
Getting there is easy, Khao San road in downtown Bangkok is filled with travel agencies that would gladly book your trip to the floating market for 300-400THB/person.

A lot of things for sale especially souvenirs are expensive, so don’t buy anything unless you know how to bargain. Food on the other hand is amazing and they’re pretty affordable, though we didn’t try anything with soup because we don’t really know where the “soup” comes from, hahaha!

Most reviews about the floating market are bad, (e.g. tourist trap, waste of time, etc) I guess it’s because of the people’s high expectations about the place. I have to admit I was a little disappointed because it didn’t look like the one I saw in postcards, but it was definitely not a waste of time. The colors, food, and the very fact that you get to see old Thai culture was very interesting to see.
